(KRON) — Filming is set to begin Thursday in San Francisco in the area of Montgomery and Vallejo streets, a location no stranger to big-budget movie productions — raising speculation about what exactly is being filmed?
According to a filming notice posted in the area, the production activity will include filming interiors and exteriors. There are also temporary no-parking signs posted in the following areas for Thursday:
Montgomery at Vallejo Intersection (5:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Broadway between Kearny and Montgomery (5:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Montgomery between Green to Broadway (11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Vallejo between Montgomery and Sansome (11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Broadway between Sansome and Montgomery (5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.)

According to the notice, the San Francisco Police Department will be on-site to assist with traffic control, and local residents will still be able to access their homes.
As mentioned, Montgomery and Vallejo, as well as the surrounding Telegraph Hill neighborhood, have been the backdrop for many movies, including The Hulk (2003) and Basic Instinct (1992).
While we don’t know exactly what will be filming — there are a few clues.
According to the signage, the production company is Ring Finger, LLC. We first tried to call them, but they declined to tell us what they were filming — just referring us to the filming notice.
So we did some digging.
KRON4 was able to obtain information on the LLC through the California Secretary of State’s Office. Ring Finger LLC is registered to an address in New York, listed at 1245 Broadway, 10th Floor. That is the global headquarters of A24 Films, the studio behind Marty Supreme (2025), Civil War (2024) and Uncut Gems (2019).
It’s common practice to form a production company LLC when shooting a movie, in part to limit liability. Sometimes the LLCs are cleverly named with a tie-in to the movie being shot.
The next major release from A24 will be The Drama, directed by Kristoffer Borgli and starring Oakland native Zendaya. It’s described as a dark comedy, centering around a couple’s wedding week that is upended by a disturbing confession.
While The Drama does have a thematic tie to the name Ring Finger Productions, the movie is set to be released in a little over a week (April 3), so unless it is a few unlikely last-minute pick-up shots, it is probably not “The Drama,” which is not even set in San Francisco. (Meantime, The Drama has stirred up some real-life drama over what critics are calling a disturbing plot twist – spoiler alert).
Now that we’ve likely ruled out The Drama, the next upcoming release from A24 listed on the company’s website is The Invite starring Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz and comes out June 26. According to IMBD, the movie synopsis is “Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places”.
In addition to a possible thematic tie to Ring Finger LLC this movie is set in San Francisco. The movie premiered as part of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It is possible a few extra shots are needed before its limited theatrical release.
One other possible clue is the on-site production contact on the film notice. It is listed as Matthew Riutta. According to his website, Riutta was the location manager for Fruitvale Station and Key Assistant location manager for big name movies such as Milk, Contagion and Moneyball.
Despite all the evidence above, there is the possibility the production could be an independent production. Riutta’s bio page lists him as an award-winning filmmaker. It also mentions two potential feature film projects: Lucky Star and Man Up Above.
Previously, Riutta wrote and directed Across, an independent short film set in the Bay Area, about a grieving father’s trip over the Bay Bridge that goes awry after he picks up a homeless veteran.
While we don’t have any concrete answers quite yet, we’ll keep digging.
