(BCN)– A 38-year-old woman died after she was found with gunshot wounds on a dirt road in Covelo over the weekend, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The shooting was reported at about 6:15 a.m. Sunday on a dirt road near Charlie Hurt Highway, and authorities were told that a citizen was driving the victim to the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department on Highway 162.
Because no emergency medical personnel were at the fire department, the woman was then taken to a nearby address on South Airport Road to summon emergency assistance, Sheriff’s Capt. Quincy Cromer said.
At the South Airport Road site, sheriff’s deputies and Round Valley Tribal Police officers arrived and started CPR on the unconscious victim, and requested emergency medical personnel.
Paramedics continued life-saving efforts, but the woman was pronounced dead about 6:55 a.m. Her name was not released.
