OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A suspect was killed after a police shooting Monday afternoon in East Oakland, according to Oakland Police Department (OPD) Interim Chief James Beere.
The shooting happened in the area of 88th Avenue and Birch Street, where OPD responded to the incident at around 3:50 p.m., Beere said. OPD officers fired at the suspect who was later taken to the hospital where he later died.
Witnesses said that, before police officers arrived, the man was pointing a gun at random people, including children.
The suspect is described as a man, but OPD has not released further details at this time.
