(KTLA) — A Bel-Air estate listed this week for $400 million is now the most expensive home currently for sale in the United States, according to multiple media reports.
At that price, the property far outpaces other ultra-luxury listings across the country, including a mansion in Aspen asking $300 million and a waterfront home in Key Biscayne, Florida, listed for $237 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
If sold anywhere near its asking price, the estate would easily shatter the record for the most expensive home ever sold in the U.S., which stands at about $240 million for a New York City apartment purchased in 2019, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The property at 11201 Chalon Road, referred to as “The Crown Jewel of Los Angeles,” hit the market Tuesday with the $400 million price tag, making it the most expensive public residential listing in the world, according to listing agents Jack Harris and Michael Fahimian of The Beverly Hills Estates, as reported by Homes.com.

The sprawling Los Angeles compound spans roughly 70,000 square feet and includes 39 bedrooms and 59 bathrooms across multiple structures on about 8 acres, according to the listing.
The property includes a main residence and a separate guest house designed for both large-scale entertaining and everyday living, the agency says.
The estate was completed around 2018 after about a decade of construction and sits on a promontory overlooking the Bel-Air Country Club, with views stretching from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean, the listing states.
Designed by architect Peter Marino and built by developer Peter McCoy, the property occupies a rare flat, roughly 8-acre site in the hills above Los Angeles, the agency noted.
