(KRON) — The City of Alameda says about two dozen bronze memorial bench plaques have recently been stolen from local parks. The dates of the incidents vary.
No arrests have been made so far.
“The City of Alameda is aware of and saddened by the recent thefts,” said a city official to KRON4 Thursday. “We recognize the emotional value these memorial plaques hold and share the community’s frustration. To prevent future loss, we recommend that donors consider replacing plaques using different materials to deter future theft.”
It is not yet known how many suspects may be involved.
In a separate case, a Vallejo man was arrested for allegedly defacing Solano County memorials that honored veterans and law enforcement officers.
