FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KRON) — The Solano County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of bronze plaques that were on display at the Peace Officer Memorial, Veterans Memorial, courthouse and other county buildings.
Bronze stars and plaques honoring 21 Solano County law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty were stolen from the memorial in Fairfield, authorities said Wednesday. According to the sheriff’s office, the thefts were “not random vandalism,” but “deliberate, calculated acts at places of honor, remembrance, and public service.”
The thefts come just two weeks ahead of the annual Peace Officer Memorial ceremony slated for May 13.
Solano County Sheriff Brad DeWall said the “cowardly and disgraceful” crime was an “attack on the memory of fallen peace officers, veterans, and the families who carry their legacy.”

In a message to the vandal or vandals, Sheriff DeWall said, “You did not steal mere metal—you stole symbols of sacrifice, duty, courage, and patriotism. You violated places of remembrance that hold deep meaning for this county. We will work tirelessly to find you and ensure you are held fully accountable under the law.
“Every available resource is dedicated to this investigation with the help of our allied law enforcement partners throughout Solano County. If you believe you can hide behind darkness, anonymity, or distance, you are mistaken.”
In the wake of the thefts, the sheriff’s office said the memorials will be restored.
