(KRON) — A 21-year-old Bay Area motorcyclist was killed Monday after a collision near the University of California, Santa Cruz, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred at 4:45 p.m. on Empire Grade north of Heller Drive. Authorities said the 21-year-old man, a resident of Pescadero, was riding a 1999 Harley-Davidson northbound. At the same time, a driver in a 2025 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer was traveling southbound. The vehicles were each traveling at speeds that have yet to be determined in the investigation.
“Both vehicles crashed for unknown reasons,” CHP wrote. “The Harley Davidson rider suffered major injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.”

The driver of the truck was uninjured in the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. It is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors.
