(KRON)– After three weeks of water contamination in a Mountain View neighborhood, clean water is expected to be restored in the next few days, according to the City of Mountain View.
The initial incident occurred on April 24 when a contractor allowed cement slurry to contact a live water main, contaminating the water source for 67 households in the Mountain View neighborhood.
The contamination prompted the city to issue a state of emergency affecting residents north of Cuesta Park.

After several rounds of testing, the city found coliform bacteria in the water line serving homes on Drucilla Drive and Carla Court. They proceeded with a “super chlorination” of the pipeline on May 3.
The process concluded on May 11 when sample results showed that the pipe had been properly disinfected, with no bacteria remaining.
Officials say that construction to reconnect the pipe is expected to be completed Monday evening, then a final round of testing will take place to ensure no bacteria is present.
Full water service is expected to be restored for the remaining two dozen affected households 24-30 hours after the pipe reconnection.
